Introduction to Audiologic Rehabilitation
Normal Hearing
This is an audiogram that represents normal hearing. Play the audio to hear what speech might sound like to this person (assuming that they had normal hearing in both ears). Then, compare how this audio sounds to the other configurations below.
Notched Configuration
This is an audiogram that represents a hearing loss in just a few of the high frequencies. This "notch" is consistent with the hearing of a person who has been exposed to noise-damaging levels of sound.
"Cookie Bite" Configuration
This is an audiogram that represents a hearing loss in just a few of the mid frequencies. The very low and very high frequencies are normal.
Rising Configuration
This audiogram shows that there is some hearing loss in the low frequencies but the mid and high frequencies are normal.
Flat Configuration
This audiogram shows that there is an equal amount of hearing loss at all frequencies.
Gradually sloping configuration
In this audiogram, the hearing loss gradually gets worse as you go from low frequencies to high frequencies.
